Local Festivals and Celebrations

Local festivals and celebrations year round include:

• Carnival, the first Tuesday every March reminiscent of the original Carnival in Brazil;
• Cultural Festival organized every May is a cultural arts festival with various events over the two week celebration;
• Sea Turtle Preservation Months (May through December) is a nationwide effort to recuperate the endangered species, participating hotels and public beaches house turtle nurseries and have celebratory release events as eggs hatch;
• Mexican Independence Day Sept. 15-16;
• All Souls Day and Dia de los Muertes are celebrations of the lives of those lost, vigils and custom designed altars of celebration appear throughout the city;
• Puerto Vallarta Gourmet Festival is 10 days of November to showcase local flare as well as world renowned guest chefs, wine tastings, culinary demonstrations and classes and special gourmet menus available;
• Vallarta Film Festival end of November to early December supported by John Huston and focuses on environmental and independent films;
• Guadalupe Processions and Festival of the Virgin Guadalupe are 13 days in December to celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe (religious holiday), fireworks, parades;
• Annual surfing, fishing, sailing and golf tournaments occur in the Vallarta area every year.
